The Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) is organized by the Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT). Founded in 1978, it has over 40 years of history and is one of the largest and most influential mathematics competitions worldwide. The competition is divided into five levels (A through E), covering students from Year 3 to Year 12. Each year, hundreds of thousands of students from over 40 countries participate. The AMC emphasizes mathematical thinking and real-world application, with problems designed around everyday scenarios that encourage creative problem-solving rather than pure computation.
The Australian AMC (China region) is typically held in October each year — the 2026 exam is on 11 October — with the exact date following the official announcement. Each paper has 30 questions for a maximum of 135 points. The competition has five levels — A, B, C, D, E — covering Grades 3-5, 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, and 12 respectively.
